I did something brilliant at work (yeah, right) and my boss gave me KC Royals baseball tickets as a thank you. The game was great, it was cool to see the stadium renovations, and the Royals beat the Indians.

I've gotta remember to do better work in the football season. Then maybe I can score some Chiefs tickets too! Note to self: Work on the weekend in September. Also, stop blogging while at office desk. (oops)

Saving the Enemy

Chargers fan the other day. I guess he didn't have time to interview the guy beforehand and see what team he likes. ;)

I know a lot of people are freaked out by it, but I can't wait to check out the Bodies Revealed exhibit. Call it morbid fascination if you want, but it's really cool. I saw a similar exhibit before, and it was fascinating. Bodies are the one thing we can all relate to, after all. :)

Outlook for 2007

Looking like we'll have a rookie at quarterback, which screams "lackluster performance" for the coming season...the plus side is a solid support network - of course, all eyes will be on the offensive line. With one of the best running backs in football, and an excellent tight end, there may not be too much reason for pessimism. Ultimately, the Chiefs have to improve on the road if they are to make any kind of real playoff bid...with four road games to end the season, it will be important to start the road season on a good foot.

2007 Preseason

The Chiefs preseason schedule is highlighted by a nationally-televised Thursday night contest on ESPN with the Miami Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium on August 16th at 7:00 PM (Central). The Chiefs will also host the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, August 23rd at 7:30 PM (Central).

The Chiefs will open their 2007 preseason slate with a road game at Cleveland on Saturday, August 11th. Kansas City will conclude its preseason schedule with the 2007 installment of the Governor’s Cup series with the Rams at St. Louis on Thursday, August 30th. All times and dates are subject to change. Times for the Chiefs two road preseason games will be finalized at a later date.

It brought tears to so many's eyes, including my own. NFL Commisioner Paul Tagliabue says of Mr. Hunt "He was one of the most considerate, one of the most thoutghful, and one of the most visionary people you could ever deal with" I personally thank him for the contributions he made to the sport. It is sad to see someone who really wanted to make fans happy gone. It makes me wonder when we will see the next Lamar Hunt and makes me hope that it is not too far away. My last couple of blogs have praised to him for his accomlpishments and now I give praise for him. For what he accomplished and for those he leaves behind. May some of his spirit live on in each of us, it would make the world a better place. He listened from the Dallas hospital to the first Thanksgiving Game, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs against the Denver Broncos, to not be played in only Dallas or Detroit but right from his hometurf in more than 3 decades. He listened as the Big 12 game matching the Oklahoma Sooners against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We listen for him now. Lamar Hunt, 1932-2006.

Arrowhead Stadium

Kansas City's own Arrowhead Stadium played host to the Big 12 championship game where The Oklahoma Sooners took on The Nebraska Cornhuskers and came away with the big V. Nebraska had a lot riding on this match since the Cornhuskers have not made the title game appearance since 6 years earlier. Head Coach Bill Callahan apologized to Cornhusker fans for his performance in the game. He would not specify any particular plays in the 21-7 loss against the Sooners simply stating, "I was dissapointed in everything I did". So were fans. But the blame cannot be laid entirely on the coach. The Cornhuskers out yarded the Sooners but did allow 5 turnovers. Once the score got to 14-0 things looked desperate as the Nebraskan boys abandonded thier strong run game throwing at one point 20 back to back passing plays.

After losing to the Cleveland Browns the Kansas City Chiefs are back in a familiar territory, no margin for error with a wild card spot fast fading. That is what it takes, it seems, for the KC boys to play at the top of thier game. If the defense could stop crumbling in the final minutes on the road, then there could be some post season action for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Gift

The Kansas City Chiefs owner, Lamar Hunt, is currently battling health issues in a Dallas hospital while teams battle each other on the turf of The Arrowhead Stadium. Hunt has campaigned for several years for furthering the stadiums at which holiday games are played from and it paid off as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos in Arrowhead Stadium on Thanksgiving evening. Formerly only Dallas and Detroit were in that listing. He has also pushed hard to get college ball to become prevelant in his community. It is Hunt, and the Chiefs ballclub that have fought hard to bring big college games to the stadium and thus big fans as well. Only by thier dime and thier hard toiling did they land The Big 12 Championship game to be played there December 2, 2006.

I would like to ask you to take some time out of your busy day today and think of Mr. Lamar Hunt. Pray for him or send him telepathic well wishes, anything. A man who struggled so hard to further football is sick and missing everything he has accomplished.

Green to be back on the field for the Chiefs

It is very welcome news that Trent Green is slated to quarterback the Kansas City Chiefs against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Not that his sub, Damon Huard, hasn't done an able job of stepping in for him. I'm just happy that Trent is up and about after the blow he took back in September that left him unconscious on the field.

Green had suffered a debilitating injury before, back in 1999, when he was getting ready to lead the St. Louis Rams. His replacement that time, Kurt Warner, showed his stuff and kept the position, all the way to the Super Bowl. Still, I doubt the main reason he wants back on the field is to hang onto his job; guys at this level of competition want to shine. Which is hard to do from the sidelines.

Just the same, coming back from a head injury is not the same as coming back from a knee injury. I think the Chiefs fans are more nervous than Trent is!

Show Me a Winner!

The Kansas City Chiefs took it to the St. Louis Rams at the so-called Show-Me Bowl at Edward Jones Dome yesterday. The Rams’ Marc Bulger had over 350 yards, mostly passing, in fact, mostly passing to Steven Jackson, who had a career-high 133 yards receiving. But they spent most of the game trying to overcome turnovers and the damage they did early on. In the end, the Rams had a lot of impressive numbers, but our Chiefs had the ones that count: Kansas City 31, St. Louis 17.

KC Chiefs' Tynes gets a do-over

We were looking so good in the first half against the San Diego Chargers, except for a couple of things Lawrence Tynes did, or rather, didn't do. He missed and extra point and a field goal, and in the fourth the Chargers managed to tie things up. Lucky for Tynes, and all us Chiefs fans, we got our hands on the ball again in the last 33 seconds. Down to the final six seconds, it was all up to him to make the longest kick of his career -- 53 yards -- and he did it.

Nice to have it happen against the Chargers, too, because it bumps us up to within a game of them in the AFC West.

Whose Streak Ends Today?

I hope not the Kansas City Chiefs' since we've had a couple of wins in a row. But we're up against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Pittsburgh, and I have a feeling they are more sick of their 3 losses in a row than we are propelled by our 2 wins. The Steelers are the reigning Super Bowl champs, too. Which was not a complete fluke.

Uh-oh! We interrupt this blog to check the score. 31 to 0 at the half, and not in our favor. I think I'd rather not watch this; I need to go online and look for tickets to see the Chiefs take on the San Diego Chargers here next week!

Kansas City Chiefs Romp Over San Francisco 49ers

Now this is the way to end a winless streak -- 41 to nothing! Everything seemed to click into place finally for our Chiefs. One of the things I liked the best was our defense. They kept the lid on San Francisco both on the ground and in the air. If it had been some other team and not the 49ers, I might have started feeling sorry for their quarterback (Alex Smith) getting sacked five times. But prior to this game, San Francisco had been dishing out the sacks to everybody else, so what's wrong with a little payback.

I'd love to have tickets to our next game, a) to go check out the brand new Cardinals Stadium in Glendale, AZ, and b) to see if the Kansas City Chiefs can model the next game after this one!

How do we get them out next time?

I have been following the rebuilding progress in New Orleans consistently since the event occurred. A lot of people are torn within themselves over the issue. No one can say for sure if rebuilding is a good idea considering the increased severity of the summer storms over the years and our fear that the trend has only begun to rear its ugly head. Most people feel we have a responsibility to rebuild and adapt to the changing conditions like the island people who were displaced by the tsunami. They feel New Orleans is an important part of our history and national identity and that it is important to keep it alive.

I see both sides but feel we may be smart to pull our ports north up the river where people can live safely or create a solid all-encompassing emergency plan for evacuating the danger zone cities well before any hurricane makes landfall.

Where will Herman Edwards lead the Chiefs?

Our best move in the draft may have been picking up quarterback Brodie Croyle from Alabama, and we'll have some time to groom him, since Trent Green and our offensive line, including Willie Roaf and Will Shields, will be back in place. It will be interesting to see how everybody adapts to Herman Edwards as head coach. I hear defense is his strong suit. Uh, the Chiefs could use a bit of that, and it would be really nice to see it this year before some of our seasoned veterans start being described as over-the-hill.

No New Hat for Arrowhead

The Kansas City Chiefs have withdrawn their bid for the 2015 Super Bowl to be held at Arrowhead Stadium. It looks like the plans for a rolling roof will not go forward and the stadium will not be climate controlled which is a requirement for hosting the event. Oh well. I can’t blame them for not spending my tax dollars to make costly renovations. They say the renovations that are being made will be designed to fit a roof in the future if the motion ever succeeds politically.

Draft results for Kansas City

I missed most of the draft yesterday because I had to work, of all things. I went to a number of sites and could not find one that agreed with the other. It seems hat every site says something different about the draft results for our Kansas City Chiefs. Maybe I just don't know enough about it or something but I can't figure this out.

Where can I find draft results to trust?

I have been trying to decide who the Kansas City Chiefs should be chasing in the draft. When I look at the past few seasons it is hard to say how we will do next year and at what positions we need to be beefing up to achieve our goal of a championship season in 2006. What are our thoughts? Forecasts? Predictions?
